Location

Our working holiday accommodation is located in Bairnsdale, Victoria, Australia in a safe and affluent neighbourhood. We are located close to the centre of town and opposite sporting grounds, the Rail Trail for bike riding, the Mitchell River where you can swim, fish and kayak, a 15-minute walk from the train station, a 10-minute walk from the supermarket and a 3-minute walk from the corner store.

Come to East Gippsland to immerse yourself in Victoria’s amazing national parks, an abundance of native Australian wildlife in its natural habitat, the stunning Australian high-country where you can ski and snowboard during winter, surf along the ninety-mile beach or kayak, fish and swim in the southern hemispheres largest inland lake system – The Gippsland Lakes.

Our area is untouched, explore and find your own piece of paradise. We encourage our guests to visit our iconic locations such as the Buchan Caves, Lakes Entrance, 90-mile beach, Dargo, Mount Hotham and Dinner Plain, Metung, Paynesville, the Silt Jetties, Snowy River National Park, Mitchell River National Park, Errinundra National Park, Croajingolong National Park, Alpine National Park, Gippsland Lakes National Park, Marlo, Cape Conran, Point Hicks Lighthouse, and Mallacoota. Having your own car is the best way to see our area as public transport options are limited.

Bairnsdale has some notable sights to see including some amazing Aboriginal artefacts at the Keeping Place museum, St Mary’s church, the East Gippsland Rail Trail, and the Mitchell River. Being the commercial centre of East Gippsland, Bairnsdale has all of the big banks, Kmart, Aldi, Woolworths, Coles, professional services such as accountants and lawyers. If sports are high on your list, Bairnsdale has you covered with Basketball, Football, Hockey, Soccer, Tennis, Golf, Rowing, Rock Climbing, Adventure Caving, White Water Rafting, Surfing, Snowboarding, Fishing, Kayaking, Downhill Mountain Biking to list a few. There are also multiple gyms in Bairnsdale.

The East Gippsland region is an amazing food bowl, supplying Australia with over 60% of all salad produce that goes to market. We have an emerging food and beverage scene with local heroes such as The Long Paddock in Lindenow, Sardine in Paynesville, Lightfoot and Sons in Calulu and Sailors Grave in Orbost.

East Gippsland is located 3 hours from Melbourne, making a weekend getaway to The Great Ocean Road to see the 12 Apostles, Phillip Island to see the penguins, Wilsons Promontory or the Grampians to go hiking, the Yarra Valley for a wine tour, or a visit to the famous Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) possible. The Vline train operates 5 services per day between Melbourne and Bairnsdale, of which 3 direct. Cost of the entire journey is now capped at $9,20!
